Outdated package versions and insufficient repository updates

6/10 Medium

Certain Linux distributions maintain outdated package versions in their repositories and don't update frequently enough. Alternative packaging formats attempted as solutions (like Flatpak forks) lack functionality and provide minimal improvement.

Query: “What are the most common pain points with Linux for developers in 2025?4/5/2026

as a distro it is just completely outdated with very old package versions that they don't update often enough and they're missing plenty of things in these repos. they tried to fix that with their own packaging format but it doesn't do anything useful.
